The Canadian government is probablhy going to ban the use of BPA--a type of hard plastic--in food-related products. The main concern is with baby bottles, Nalgene type bottles, and sometimes it's used to line cans. It has been shown, in good old animal studies (sigh), to act like a female hormone.
I take it it's not something to freak out about (though if I had a baby I would not use baby bottles and sippy cups made of this), but it's probably worth it to look at other bottle alternatives, and to throw out any Nalgene bottles that are too old (someone recommended--when the label/writing on the outside has worn off.) And it's not good to wash them in the dishwasher. (Doh!)
One woman I know uses a big glass jar as her drinking bottle. Ah yes... funny how it's The Old Ways that we have to come back to time and time again. I'm not anti-science, but... oh plastic... thou art a fickle friend.
