I don't know why I get all "let's cook all these vegetables!" when I'm SO busy with homework and meetings. I bought eggplant, zucchinis, squash, and dasheen.
I've never bought dasheen (or taro) - it was just there in the store "From Jamaica!" and I wanted to try it. It was so weird and ugly.
I read on the net that you cook like potatoes, but to peel them you use gloves because it will irritate your hands. Uncooked it's toxic. Which means it's easier to just make potatoes... but this was fun.
I sliced like french fries, and baked them with some oil sprayed on, and spices, til cooked. They looked all WHITE, and curled a little, so they looked really dry. But when you bite in, they're still moist, and very thick and rich. I'd almost call this a diet french fry, because you just wouldn't be able to pig out on these. (And they are, indeed, a little higher in fat. But otherwise nutritionally the same as patates.)
I fried them a bit, in that little bit of oil, to make them brown. Then we ate them with salt and vinegar.
But that's it... no more than one root vegetable per week. I spent hours in the kitchen because of these suckers, and the other crap I'd bought to cook. Sheesh! Tscones you are in SCHOOL.
