I have to say, I'm a big fan of this 1 Laptop per child invention thingy. That these techies got together and made an affordable laptop for use around the world (open-source so I assume it's relatively easy for local techies to alter stuff, make them country-appropriate) is pretty cool. I mean, obviously you need electricity and a hookup, but still... the internet provides unbelievable opportunities for education and communication. I mean, if a kid has a laptop and can get on the internet, you don't need to buy her a ton of other supplies, like books (SO many free classics on the webs, in English anyway).
When I am no longer so cash-poor I think I'll buy one. In November they're having a buy one, get the second one delivered to your home... and as tempting as that would be, because it's SO cute, I don't think it's necessary that I actually own one.
