Tip! fruits and fruitflies

When I get home from grocery shopping I toss most of the veggies into the sink, and when I get the energy I wash them. (I don't wash things that are stuck together at the root, though, like lettuce and chives. Will they keep as long if I rip them up? I don't know.)

It saves time later, but I'm also keen to wash off any fruit fly eggs. I even wash bananas. I got a fruit fly invasion last summer and I tell you they are a BITCH to get rid of. Prevention is everything!

Rachael Ray agrees.

Resealable bags are kitchen essentials. Rachael explains you should wash and dry your produce as soon as you return from the grocery store, then put them into resealable bags so they are clean and fresh when you need them. "This is a huge time saver," she says.
